About 5000 years ago, in the auspicious day of Mokshada Ekadashi, Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, delivered the transcendental knowledge of Bhagavad Gita to His friend and devotee, Arjuna in the battlefield of Kuruksetra (Madhya Pradesh, India), a great holy place. That glorious day is named after as ‘Gita Jayanti’.

Alike with other ISKCON temples, ISKCON Swamibag celebrates this auspicious day with great ecstasy. Devotees recite all the 700 Sanskrit verses altogether, hear the glories of Gita, chant ecstatic kirtan, take delicious prasadam, participate in various other programs including sermons based on Bhagavad Gita and so on.

Moreover, ISKCON devotees celebrate the month of Gita Jayanti as “Srila Prabhupada Book Marathon” and actively participate in spreading the message of Bhagavad Gita, uttered by Lord Krishna irrespective of religion, caste and creed across the globe.

It is stated that the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita is the essence of all knowledge from Vedic literatures. This holy book contains all the knowledge that all the Vedic scriptures comprise; on top of that this book contains such confidential knowledge that other Vedic scriptures don’t carry.
Bhagavata Gita is also known as Gitopanishada. Here, Lord Sri Krishna mercifully gives the most profound divine wisdom called “Devotional Service”. This book teaches how to attain the real purpose of a human being, that is surrender to Krishna. Thus, indeed, this knowledge is an indispensable contribution to the absolute welfare of the entire human race.
