Sankirtan

Sankirtan (congregational chanting) refers to chanting the Holy Name of the Lord by masses through mridannga (kettledrum) and kartal (cymbals). Also, glorifying the Name of the Lord through distributing books is called Sankirtana. Just like, chanting awakens the ignorant, the Vedic literature awakes from the slumber of nescience. Even, the books can reach to that point where chanting can’t. That is why, books are called “Brihad Mridanga”. Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada said books are the basis of our spiritual life Therefore, it is the duty of all of us to integrate ourselves with this Sankirtan movement.

Appreciating Srila Prabhupada’s contribution in the progress of human society Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Former Prime Minister of India has said “Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada performed an invaluable task. His books are the unique contribution for the salvation of the whole human society.”
